Every day in our program, our Youth Development Mentors (YDMs) are out at schools and on fields in San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles changing lives through the sport of rugby. These awesome folks are working with our participants to teach them to Go Forward, Play What They See, Be Try Makers Not Try Scorers, Switch On, and Get There. One of these amazing YDMs is Genevieve Ireland.
Genevieve has played rugby for 7 years, and currently plays for Cal Women’s Rugby. This past year she reached a significant milestone and made it to the Collegiate All Americans West camp, and the Pac-Coast All Stars.
She loves everything about the game of rugby, from playing the sport to the culture and camaraderie. When asked about the best part of being a YDM Genevieve said, “Watching the kids come together as a team!” We love to emphasize Try Makers Not Try Scorers. This value ensures that the teams are working as one whole unit instead of relying on one single individual. When Genevieve is not on the rugby pitch, she is working on house projects, cooking, or working out.
