Once again we’re thrilled to join #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. ‘Tis the season for Developing Youth Through Rugby! Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and after the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

In 2014 the Play Rugby USA team got into the #GivingTuesday spirit and spent a day in service of our local rugby community by planting 10,000 daffodil bulbs on Randall’s Island to help beautify the park space that we so often use for our programs. It was a rewarding experience for us and so this year we’re looking to get back in the giving spirit, this time serving folks outside our typical rugby community. This year we’re working with the Bowery Mission, who provide the homeless men and women of NYC with hot meals, emergency shelter, medical attention and so much more. Our team will spend the morning serving meals at the Mission’s East Harlem Men’s Facility where 70 formerly homeless men are working toward sustainable income and housing in a Life Transformation Program. We’re thrilled to partner with such an impactful organization and look forward to making a difference in the lives of these deserving New Yorkers. Watch this space for updates on our day of service.

Last year we also incorporated #GivingTuesday into our annual Holiday Giving Campaign, and thanks to the generosity of some fantastic individuals and organizations we raised over $15,000 to provide ongoing support for our youth development programs and enabling us to achieve some amazing things in 2015:
