The iconic Webb Ellis Cup visited New York as part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour and last Wednesday students at our Junior Sports Leadership Academy were thrilled to welcome it to their after school program!

Getting to view the Webb Ellis Cup was exciting, but many of our students found meeting and playing with England international player Alex Corbisero even more thrilling! Alex helped coach the kids, emphasizing the importance of a “brick wall” defense, and answered their enthusiastic questions including what it was like to play against the All Blacks.

The next edition of Rugby World Cup, the third largest global sporting event behind the Olympics and Football World Cup, takes place in England and Cardiff next year between September 18 and October 31. Hosted in 13 venues across the country, the USA are in Pool B and will face South Africa, Samoa, Scotland and Japan.
The Trophy Tour, which is being delivered in partnership with Land Rover and DHL, is the first time the trophy has been showcased around the world. It will visit 15 countries over 12 months as part of a celebration of rugby in the lead up to the Tournament.
