Play Rugby USA was pleased to welcome Jonny Sexton and Ronan O’Gara to NYC to share their wealth of top level rugby experience with a selection of students from our local programs at the Play Rugby USA Summer Camp. Randall’s Island played host to today’s session which was boosted by the inclusion of Irish Rugby Stars Johnny Sexton and Ronan O’Gara, who are in town supporting the No. 10 Fund which benefits CMRF Crumlin as they support children being treated for Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) in Ireland.
Sexton and O’Gara famously battled for the Irish No.10 jersey while they were both in the team, as they are both exceptional flyhalf’s. According to the two of them, there is a lot less tension between the two now which has paved way for their new partnership in the No.10 Fund, through CMRF Crumlin.
Ronan and Johnny were exceptional in taking time to explain some of their rugby knowledge, and answer questions about their experience in international rugby. The kids were extremely well informed on both of their careers, to the surprise of the irishmen who were certainly asked the tough questions!
It’s not often that NYC’s youth rugby players get the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s best but they certainly won’t take it for granted! The player’s in attendance were very keen to get as much knowledge as possible, always asking questions and for tips from Johnny and Ronan, such as the correct kicking technique when trying to reach touch. A promising site seeing the level of rugby talent increasing in such a short time.
We thank Johnny, Ronan, CMRF Crumlin and the No.10 Fund for making the day such a success! Also a big thank you to the PRUSA coaches in attendance, led by Rys.
